Leadership That Sticks:The MOXIE Framework

Brave leadership isn’t built on a single heroic moment—it’s practiced in small, intentional moves that stack over time.
It’s showing up when it’s hard, speaking up when it’s uncomfortable, and leading in a way that makes it safe for others to do the same.

When I wrote Practicing Bravery with MOXIE, I wanted leaders to have more than inspiration. I wanted to give them a structure—a way to anchor brave choices to clear, repeatable habits. That structure became the MOXIE framework:

Mindset — The lens that shapes your leadership and determines how you approach challenges.
A strong leadership mindset helps you cultivate a fearless yet strategic approach to challenges—willing to take bold swings when it matters, while choosing your moment, your method, and your message with intention.

Ownership — Stepping fully into responsibility for your role, your outcomes, and your impact.
It’s not just about doing your job—it’s about not waiting for permission to take control of your career, your growth, and the outcomes you influence. Ownership means you act before you’re asked, and you lead from wherever you stand.

eXecution — Turning vision into action with clarity, consistency, and follow-through.
Execution is where ideas meet reality. It’s how you avoid “strategy theater” and focus on producing results that matter—without losing momentum or direction.

Integrity — Aligning your values, words, and actions—even when it’s hard, and even when no one is watching.
Integrity is the trust currency of leadership. It’s not about perfection—it’s about consistently making choices that reflect your principles, especially when they’re inconvenient.

Empathy — Leading with humanity, creating trust and connection that fuel performance.
Empathy is not the opposite of accountability—you can care deeply for your team and still hold them to high standards. The key is balancing compassion with clarity, so people feel supported in meeting their commitments.

Why MOXIE matters

Leadership is messy. It’s full of competing priorities, imperfect information, and people who don’t always agree. Without a clear foundation, it’s easy to get stuck in reaction mode—constantly putting out fires instead of building something lasting.

MOXIE gives you a framework to steady yourself, no matter the chaos around you.

  • It’s practical — You can use it in the moment, not just in theory.

  • It’s adaptable — It works whether you’re leading a team of two or two thousand.

  • It’s human — It recognizes that leadership is as much about relationships as it is about results.

Bravery in action

Practicing MOXIE doesn’t mean you’ll never feel fear, doubt, or frustration. It means you’ll know how to move through those moments with purpose and skill. It’s how you turn “I hope this works” into “I know why this matters—and I’m ready to lead it.”

Over the next few days, I’ll share a post on each letter of the MOXIE framework—how it works, why it matters, and how to put it into practice right now.

Because leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about bringing your MOXIE to the moments that matter most.
